Editing blog

The second we got into class we started to try and work on our commercial. We first started of on the school computers and I logged into the computer. We could not find pennicle studios on the desk top so we started to worry.  We where very worried that we where the only group struggling with editing process. Come to find out all of the other groups are having problems. The computers supplied by the school also where not working. The problem was that they did not have Pennicle Studios to edit on. We where stressing out because we could not get our editing in time but the whole class is having problems. Then I had the idea to switch to Lucas laptop. We logged into his laptop and started to look for the application IMovie.
We realized that there was no application for I Movie and realized we had a problem. We had to update Lucas laptop to be able to start editing. The updating process took almost the whole class period. Our team member Lucy who was sick for filming is here. She is going to do a large portion of the editing for our group because she couldn’t film. All of our footage has already dumped on to the computer. I wish we could have edited today to be able to make progress on our commercial. Also Imovie is a very easy application to work. Mostly anyone can learn how to work IMovie Wich and it has manny good transitions. This is why I’m so upset that we could not work on iMovie, I think it would have turned out very good.
Luca is going to go home and make Shure iMovie gets downloaded onto his laptop so next class we can work on it. I am particularly upset that the day our group is all here we couldn’t work together to make progress on our commercial. I’m mad that we made such a good video and I was ready to work and the computers where not working. We made sure that we put all of our clips on our google drive to make sure our clips where secure. We do not want to loose our commercial because we put a lot of time and effort into it. Overall today was very frustrating to film because it stopped us from working. I am exited for next class because I belive that we will be ready to edit. I very much want to use IMovie for our commercial. It will then turn out very good and we will be finished with our project. Our group it very exited to finish our commercial because it will be very good and very impactful.

Filming blog

Today in my media studies class it was very fun. We got to film for the duration of the class period with our groups. My ground chose a anti-vapeing video because we thought our commercial could have an impact on today’s teenagers. The first thing I did for the process of filming was costumes, thankfully it was simple. We all wore with t shirts to match. Then we made sure we had a flash drive to look like a vape for filming. After the process of checking out all of out equipment my group quickly got to filing, although there was a big problem. One of our group members was very sick and could not make it to school, so we had to adjust almost everything. I then took the camera and the sd sd card and went down stairs. We could not find any tape in our classroom so we went to a neighboring teavher and borrowed tape from them.
Then I taped on singes that said “lung cancer” and “ addiction” to my two group members. The first shot of our commercial is me sitting  on the stairs of our school and put the flash drive to my lips to make it seem like I was vapeing. I was very happy because this only took one take, we did it multiple times Incase something was off. We then realized we had a big problem, not being able to get the people we wanted in the shop because of our missing group member. Thankfully a student we knew walked passed, this student passed AICE media studies, so he helped us get a couple of shots. I felt like one of the hardest parts for me was I had to fall in the commercial. I had to fall because “lung cancer” and “addiction” there chaseing after me. I also had the idea of adding some dialogue at the end to make our video more impactful. We all thought of things for Luca and James to say, because they where the diseases, and we wrote it down. I then shot a clip of them and they read off of the paper to make Shure they did not mess up.
I made It so that there was a white wall behind them to make it look more professional. I then packed up the equipment and James carried it up to the classroom to start the dumping process. My friend needed extra people to form an “L” for their media video so I help them with that. I figured out how to insert the SD card into the computer correctly. We then went up to the classroom and dumped all the the clips from the SD card onto Lucas computer. I then packed up all the equipment and put our equipment sign out paper in the correct folder. I had to try and rush my group so the next period could use the SD card as soon as possible.  Overall, I had a very enjoyable experience filming with a very productive and high energy group. I think our commercial will turn out very impactful and it is very creative thanks to my group as a whole.

Story boards

Today we began and completed our storyboards in class of our upcoming commercials. Since our commercial is 30 seconds long, each box of our storyboard represents 6 seconds of film so in total we used 5 boxes. In our anti vaping commercial, we will be using several kinds of shots in order to fully enhance the audience in the commercial and keep them interested. Some shots we used were point of view shots, over the shoulder, high angles, and finally wide shots. Although we may have to change some scenes, these are the planned camera angles and movements we will be using in our commercial. During our editing process we plan on using jump cuts to transition between our different pieces of film, the reason being that we want this commercial to really emphasize what each scene is saying

Editing blog

In my media studies class today I learned about editing, how to log out a camera and how to import and export video and music clips. First step on how to log out a camera is to grab an agreement from the cubby in class. Cameras will be returned the next day, or as soon as possible if there is a weekend. Fill out your form with names and check out days make sure your number is on the paper that was given. Then turn in the paper to the bin and go get your camera from the teacher in the closet. The tripods need to be closed when you are moving them, they may break. Also your camera has to be fully secured onto the tripod with the circle on the top of the tripod. Filming is a very important part of creating the commercial and we should film as much as possible to get a good outcome.
For the editing process, the first thing I would do it go to my computer and click on pinnacle  studios, only one person will log in and it will be under there information. Then put the SD card reader into the USB of the computer, then create a folder on your desktop and move your footage into it. The class shares the SD card readers, so my group will try to go as fast as we can. There is also a procedure if you can’t find your clips. First you will check your DCIM then click “can’t find it” -go to private, AVCHD, then click EDMV. After that you go to stream: everything on the SD card, highlight everything, move it into your folder. This process is called dumping and it is very important to the editing process because it gives you access to all your video clips.
Then to import from your desktop to pinnacle studios the first thing you will do is click import and look for your folder. Everything with a yellow check will be imported (you should import everything) then click start import. The box with an orange outline is what you are working on, click edit. You will be editing your raw footage: uncut footage. Then you build on AV-track-2. Tracks are different layers of the film. Cut your video with the razor blade icon witch splits footage. Then hit delete where you want to cut the clip, if you cut the clip in the wrong place click undo. To add transitions you right click and open effects in editor, to add text click the large T.  To export it has to be a MPEG4- then click the best quality then click start export. Save as screen and change folder to your title name-exit out of the pop up box. Then minimize the tab and go to your folder to see if it is all saved, exit out of pinnacle studios.

Planning blog

As a group, we have decided to do the anti-vaping commercial. In our commercial, there will be a student walking towards the bathroom, they will then enter and begin using the vape(USB). After their use, “lung cancer” will wait outside the bathroom and begin to walk up to the student that vaped, “death” and “addiction” will follow and eventually circle the student. It will then fade or dissolve into a close up of the students face where they will be overwhelmed with the effects of vaping. At the end of the commercial, there will be a voice over, stating something to the effect of  “After vaping, you may be stuck with these effects forever” The commercial will then end with the warning signs of vaping.

  1. Props: For our anti-vaping commercial, we will be using a USB as dangerous vaping device, shirts with labels on them:“lung cancer” on one shirt, “death” on another, and finally “addiction”.

  1. Costumes: We will be using a casual, school appropriate clothes to represent the student vaping in our commercial. To represent the effects of vaping, we will be using T-shirts with labels on them “lung cancer” on one shirt, “death” on another, and finally “addiction”.

  1. Schedule: 10/10- We are preparing our commercial by listing our props needed, our costumes we need, our schedule for planning, the location of our commercial and finally, the backup plan if our original plan does not go through.
10/14- We will be creating our storyboards for our commercial to explain each segment in the commercial.
10/22- We will be filming our commercial on the school campus where we will film our original plan and possibly our backup incase the original is not what we were hoping it to be.

  1. Location list- For our commercial, we will be filming near the bathroom and the classroom. We will be using these locations as it portrays perfectly where vaping occurs throughout the school day. We may change or think of new places in the school to shoot the video, however, for now we have chosen the bathroom.

  1. Backup Plan: If our original plan of using the bathroom is not able to be followed through on, we will switch locations to the bleachers by the football field as it is secluded and could be another place for vaping to happen.

Blog

Conventions and codes are used throughout commercials to get the viewer or consumer, more interested in the product. An array of conventions and codes can be used during an advertisement, some being: lighting, music, sounds, and overall story and plot of the advertisement. Each example of conventions draw the audience in more to the actual commercial, whether it be through emotions or curiosity.

Conventions are the familiar and predictable forms of media that brands use to communicate certain ideas or convey a desired impression. How certain words and phrases become conventions is through repeated use to the point where the audience is actually anticipating the phrase again. In our commercial, an anti-vaping campaign, we will focus primarily on the health effects of vaping in the long term so we will use the conventions of constant repetition throughout the commercial.

Intro

Hello my name is Ryan Brooks and I live in South Florida. I’m in 10th grade and play on varsity volleyball for my school. I enjoyed coming to my school because I have very good teachers. My favorite subject is history, more specifically, Aice European history. I love this class because it is so intriguing and you can ask so many questions. I also enjoy Crimal Justice 2, we get to do very fun things in that class like talking to police officers and learning military steps. I find this to be good training because I want to go into the Naval academy after high school. I would love to play volleyball for the naval academy, they have a very good team.
The class I like the least is math class, Algebra 2 honors, although I have a very cool teacher for that class I still struggle in that class a lot. I have a very good tutor for that class, Ms.Goren, and she is helping me a lot. I don’t struggle I many other classes other then math. Volleyball is also a factor in my grades because I play for hours after school everyday and it takes up a lot of my time. I’m very proud of myself that I made the varsity team sophomore year and I’m happy I get to play with all my older friends.
I’m also getting certified as a lifeguard this month because I’ve been training to become one my whole life. I really want to get the job but it is not easy, you have to take to classes, pass a written test, and then pass a physical test. All of them are very hard especially the physical one, many grown men and women can’t pass, wich  is why you have to train so much for it. I’m very exited to do my test and get my dream job I’ve wanted for my whole life. It also will look good when I’m trying to get into the Naval Academy.
