Genre Research: Room

Common Sound
Diegetic sound : One example of diegetic sound would be the young boy moaning when he wakes up
Non diegetic: An example of this is while showing the opening credits, each time a new credit would come on a tapping noise would be made that was implemented into the movie after the filming. Another example of non diegetic sound is the young boy talking telling the story of his birth to the auidense.
Diaglouge: An example of dialouge is the young boy telling his mother it is his birthday and he is five.
Camera angles
POV: the boys mother is eating and talking to the boy about his birthday and to show she is talking to him they use a POV.
TWO shot: An exaple of a two shot in the film is when the child and the mother are getting ready and they are both stretching on the floor.
Close up is used in the film while the mother is talking to the man who captured her.
 Camera movements
Tracking shot: the young boys mother is creating an activity for the boy and he is running in the room. The camera follows him as he runs
High angle: there is a high angle in the film when the young boy and his mother are baking him a cake
Pan: A pan is used while showing the mother and the son in the hospital.
Lighting
Low key lighting:  low key lighting is used when the young boy is in the closet it is dark and the light is contrasted.
Natural light is also used in this film because of the skylight from the room. This shows that the skylight is the outside and the room is the inside.
High key lighting is used in this film when they mother and the boy are in the hospital. There are bright lights because of the windows and the doctors.
Makeup
There is little to no make up used in this film other than a couple of instances. One would be when the mom is getting ready for an interview to tell her story. A makeup artist puts on what you would call street makeup, light amounts of lipstick and concealer.

Setting
the setting is established and stays the same for a large majority of the film. The setting is a small room consisting of a small kitchen, bath and a small bed. In the beging of the film you know nothing about where the characters actually are. It is until the beginning of the film where you learn they are in Akron, Ohio
Actors
For most of the film the main actors is a young boy named Jack and a mother named Joy. Later on the auidence meets Joys family and some other characters such as doctors and journalists.
Sound
Diegetic sound : One example of diegetic sound would be the young boy moaning when he wakes up
Non diegetic: An example of this is while showing the opening credits, each time a new credit would come on a tapping noise would be made that was implemented into the movie after the filming. Another example of non diegetic sound is the young boy talking telling the story of his birth to the auidense.
Diaglouge: An example of dialouge is the young boy telling his mother it is his birthday and he is five.
Props
One prop that is significant is the rug that is used to transfer the boy out of the room. The reason this is important because this prop shifts the whole film from being in a small room and being captured. Into being in the reals world free.
A common sound used in the film is the toy truck Jack got for his birthday. This makes a mechanical sort of sound. It is significant because it is the thing that his capturer him for his fifth birthday.
Common editing in the film is a cut. This is the most used edit in the film. The reason it is used so often is to build suspense.
Elements of the genre that I like: I like the story’s of genres. They are very intriguing and keep people interested. Sometimes dramas have lessons within the film.
Some elements of the genre that I don’t like is the film can be a little to suspenseful. In some ways this is good but for many people they may not like it and it could be considered scary.
Elements of the genre include the plot and the dialogue Wich is expressed very well in this film. The plot is intriguing and keeps the audience wondering what’s next. The dialogue expresses what is truly happening in the film.

Genre Research Drama

For this power point I put a lot of time and effort into making it a good powerpoint. This took a lot of time but it helped when trying to understand our project better. This assignment helped when creating our project to be able to make our film more like this genre. The reason this helped is because our research told us the type of camera angles people use while creating this genre. We also got to learn about the lighting usually used in out genre. We used natural lighting because this genre usually does this. This is  why researching our genre is important to know what should be included in out film.

Final Task

Hi, my name is Ryan Brooks and my group has many ideas for our final task. I very much enjoy filming for this class. I find it very fun to start and finish something and be able to watch all my hard work. Editing is a very fun part of this process because you get to fix everything. You have a bunch of random clips and the editor gets to put it together and make it flow. Also I like that I am able to work with other hard working people. The people in my group are super fun to work with and very productive. My group includes Luca Montes, and Camilo Prado. I’m very excited to start the process of creating our final task. Also to be able to work with my friends and create an amazing video.
Personally I have learned many things from this class. One thing is that you cannot wait to film and edit. The way I found this out is I edited the night before our music video and I ended up staying up very late. To add to this, I learned that you need to communicate with your group. This is key to having a functioning group because you need to split up the work and make sure your idea gets portrayed correctly. This means you need to meet with your group and make sure that everyone is on the same page. Also, I learned that the filming process is one of the most important. The filming process is important because you need to have a lot of footage. You need to make sure of this because it is hard to go back and make it look like it is the same day. The reason for this is to make sure we have talked a lot about our video and what we are going to do for it.
A pitch is a Hollywood term to describe idea where a film is encapsulated in 25 words. One out of many pitches we would have teens going to a graveyard on Halloween night with the Ouija board and eventually one teen disappears the teens look for her and her name is on a bloody grave. For our second pitch a soccer player is in the pros and he breaks his leg and eventually hit rock bottom, loses everything. Our third pitch is all of us at a cemetery at a funeral with a voiceover. After it shifts back to the past showing what happened and the voice over starts telling the story of why we are at our friend’s funeral. I think all of our pitches are mostly practical. These would all be good final tasks and fun to film.

Flashback Blog

We have narrowed down our 3 pitches now to 2. Our group to a lot of time discussing witch pitch we would eliminate. We decided that we would cut the soccer player pitch. The reason we decided this is because it would be too hard to film someone breaking their leg. I do not know how we would film this. Also there would not be enough to film. The reason we think this is because we need to film the beginning of the film and the beginning would not interesting. We thought about the audience and if they just say the soccer player playing and then breaking his leg I don’t believe that the audience would be interested. The soccer pitch is hard to film and hard to keep people interested. That is why we choose to eliminate the pitch.
Our first pitch about the teens in the graveyard is very good. It would be easy to film because all we need is a Ouija board and some candles. Also I think it would be very intriguing for the people watching the film. The first part of the film will catch the audience's eye. The reason for this  is very suspenseful because you don’t know if the teens are going to be able to save the girl or not. One aspect that is bad is we would have to go into a graveyard. This might not be allowed and it would be scary. Another thing is that filming when it is dark is hard. Even though there will be candles it could still be difficult. Being able to see the actors is critical to the film so the audience knows what is going on.
Our third pitch is most likely the best option. The reason for this is us being at a funeral the second it starts is super interesting. Our audience will be intrigued and they will want to know why they are there. To add, our costumes would be black clothes and this is a common thing. One reason this may be difficult is creating a fake funeral would be difficult. The reason it is hard is because you need a lot of people. It will be easy to do a voice over for the flashback. The actual flashback will be people running away from something. This is very easy to film and edit together. The third pitch is the most practical and the best idea. This is why we are choosing this pitch to film.

Editing Blog

The duration of our editing process went fairly smooth. We dumped all of our clips on to the computer. We are using Amanda’s computer. She has an Apple computer. We want to edit on this computer for a reason. Our group believes that editing on this software will be easier. This software is simple to work. We already know how to work is as well. We first put our sd card reader into the computer. This is to be able to dump all of our film.I know how to work it because I have used it before. We know to keep it on one person's computer. The reason for this is so we don’t lose any clips. Then we look on our desktop and find our clips. Then we import the scenes into IMovie. Then we start the editing process. The first step will be to put all of our clips in order. The reason for this is to make sure our clips make sense. If we didn’t do this our music video it would not be in chronological and it would not fit the music. After we put the clips in order, we implement the music next. The way we do this is wee screen record the song. Then we put the audio into the senses. We then cut down the clips to correctly fit with the music. The reason we do this is so the senses make sense. We want the clips to correlate with the music. Then after we do this we will cut down any access clips. We will do this Incase the video is too long. The video has to be 1:30 seconds or less so we are going to make Sure it's the right amount of time. We have almost finished the editing process as a whole. We will finish on Sunday.

Storyboard Blog

The storyboarding aspect of the filming process is crucial. The planning of the whole music video is on the storyboard, which you need to complete the project. Each box is about 6 seconds, so my group planned to fill out twelve boxes. The reason we chose to do twelve boxes is because the limit is one minute and thirty seconds. Also we did less boxes then the actual music video is we believe we might film a lot of footage. We will aim to follow the storyboard as closely as possible. Yet, we might go off track slightly because there is a lot to include. We will be including a variety of shots to enhance the quality of our music video. For example, POV shots and over the shoulder. The POV shot is to add variety to the film. Also to show clearly what that charter is doing at that minute. These shots are to engage the viewer into the music video. Also we will be including various editing into this. For example we will have jump cuts to reduce the amount of time things take. The jump cuts will also keep the viewer intrigued. Also we will have cross cutting to show what one actress is doing while it is also focused on another. This is meant to show that the actresses are meeting up with people. This is important to know so when it occurs later in the music video it is not random. Our storyboard includes a lot of planning. For example, we planned out all of our shots and editing. One sene will have an extreme close up of someone putting their makeup on to go out. Also an important part of the music video is the sene  of us going shopping because it shows we are getting ready for something. Establishing shot is also very important to the music video. The reason it is important is because it introduces characters. To add to this, it shows the viewers the setting. The storyboard is very useful to the director or directors. This makes it abundantly easier for them to do things. This includes where to put the camera. Also how to move the camera, also how to edit these clips. It is very important to know exactly what you want to include in your music video so filming can go smoothly.

Filming blog

Over the break we successfully completed the filming process for our music video. We took a series of scenes that relate to our song “I Gotta Feeling” by the Black Eyed Peas. Our music video was required to be a total of 1 minute and 15 seconds. We followed this out by our storyboard and filmed 10 different shots in total for our project. Since our product contained shots multiple times this made filming easier because we did not have to move around as much as far as location goes. Our music video is upbeat and carries this mood throughout the project. The filming process took about a week to conduct and we reviewed all of our footage after the matter. We made sure to include a variety of shots multiple times to ensure we have enough and we are prepared just in case one of the scenes don’t look as planned. Using the notes from last project, we were able to use the camera and tripod correctly as well as get the precise shots we were counting on for the final product. We chose the song to be unique from others and to interest our audience into watching.

Regarding the filming in more detail, the first shot that we began to create was in Ryan’s house in her entertainment center area. Here we showed our boredom and need to have fun during sitting on the coach while we zoomed on each of our individual expressions. Then we present us in a moving vehicle on our way towards the shopping mall. Following this will be a point of view shot of one of us entering the mall to purchase a series of outfits. As I mentioned earlier, some scenes will be shown twice. Just like when we film us in the car again but instead on our way back to the house. Once we are back to the home we will then start to get ready with makeup and other accessories. We must do this in order to go out for the night and match the party setting we chose. We have taken many shots with bright lights and dancing to show our night out. The music video will end after all of us party and are exhausted from the partying.

In addition to these main scenes, we also created others to demonstrate the variety of shots we were able to create. We decided to use some of our fellow students to give us a hand with our project since we needed more than the three people working on the assignment for filming. No matter our circumstances we have a time limit and due date for this project and it was very important that we used time wisely. Not only do we have to film, but we have to edit as well when we complete the filming process. Since we are done filming for our project, the only next step is to edit the music video to perfection. Since we are making a music video, without editing the whole purpose would be defeated. Without music the scenes would lack substance and would make little sense to the viewer experiencing them. Not only will we use editing in this aspect, we will also use it to fix any errors and to touch up what we need to. We still have to add all of our scenes into one on a software of our choice. I believe that iMovie would be the best option since that is what I chose last time and the other software known as Pinnacle Studios was working at a slower pace.
